Conditions of Entry
Each entry must:
• Include a completed application form.
• Provide a short, typewritten explanation of the significance and context of the story (300
words max).
• Have been published, broadcast or televised between 1 May 2009 and 30 April 2010.
• Meet the fol owing format-specific guidelines:

– Print, online articles: Each entry must include one original copy of the article(s).

– Television/Documentary: Al entries must include standard DVD copies of the
program and, where possible, a complete transcript. Each entry must be submitted
on a separate disc. Discs may be duplicated for the awards ceremony.

– Radio: Al entries must include two standard compact discs of the program and,
where possible, a complete transcript.
Journalists may submit a maximum of three entries.

Medical Practitioners or other health professionals are not eligible for these awards unless
they are working as journalists.
Applicants who have received any financial or in kind sponsorship from a health sector
corporation in relation to their entry must declare al details.
Joint applications wil be accepted, but each applicant must complete their own form.
The judges’ decision wil be final.
Entries wil not be returned.

Judging Panel
The entries will be judged and the winners selected by a panel of judges, including
journalists with long-term experience in media, science and medicine.
They are:
– Mr Paul Kelly, Editor-at-Large, The Australian

– Mr Angelos Frangopoulos (CEO, Australian News Channel)
– Professor Robert Graham, AO (Executive Director VCCRI)
– A representative from Media, Entertainment Arts Alliance
– A scientist from the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute
Judging Criteria
The awards will be judged on the following criteria:
1. Medical accuracy
2. Impact
3. Newsworthiness
4. Presentation
5. A lucid understanding of cardiovascular issues
6. Awareness raising of Cardiovascular diseases
