UPMC Health Plan, Inc., is pleased to announce our new partnership with Avesis Third Party Administrators, Inc.
Effective January 1, 2010, the dental benefits for members of the following UPMC Health Plan products will be
administered by Avesis:
• UPMC for You (Medicaid)
• UPMC for Kids (CHIP)
• UPMC for Life (Medicare)
• UPMC for Life Specialty Plan (Medicare benefits for dual-eligibles)
• Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB)
Avesis is a national company with over thirty years of experience administering ancillary benefit programs,
including dental, vision, and hearing. Avesis currently serves as the dental plan administrator for several large
managed care organizations providing services for Medicaid and Medicare members in a variety of states and enjoys
an excellent reputation throughout these dental communities and with the various local and state dental
organizations.
Dr. Richard Celko, a local western Pennsylvania dentist, will serve as Avesis’ State Dental Director. In addition,
Avesis’ Chief Dental Officer, Dr. Fred Sharpe, will be intimately involved with the UPMC Health Plan/Avesis
dental program. Dr. Sharpe has over thirty years of dental practice and managed care experience.
UPMC Health Plan and Avesis are excited about this new relationship and look forward to your continued
participation in the network to provide services to UPMC Health Plan members. A kick-off meeting will be
scheduled in the next several weeks to provide you with the opportunity to meet Drs. Sharpe and Celko and other
key members of the Avesis team. You will be receiving an invitation to the meeting soon. In the interim, if you have
