Wreck of the Idene
Galilee, Ri · I don’t know what possessed me to sign up
for a charter out to the wreck of the Idene, a 120-foot
fishing trawler intentionally sunk as an artificial reef
4 1/2 miles southeast of Block Island - at least not in
early May, when water temps are never out of the 40’s!
Must’ve been everyone telling me what a gorgeous
wreck she was and how vis often hit 20 feet (really,
really good for this area).

We boarded the Priority Too in Galilee,
RI early Sunday morning, May 3rd and headed out of
port at 7am on the dot. There were 6 divers, includ-
ing Red, who crewed, Eric Lawson and me. Captain
Rick, whose day gig is being a Warwick firefighter and
EMT, also dives, which is something I tend to like in a

But seriously, we wives search for bargains like the guys search for

left! We were hoping to eat “al fresco” but settled for a
table inside. The food and service were great, but the
company of friends was the best.
Spring The rest of the afternoon was spent
looking in the unique shops and observing the people
around us. That’s really the best part of P-town week-

Town ness. The 70+ year old guy in heels and shorts, living
his dream, singing Frank Sinatra tunes outside the town
hall, couples of every persuasion just strolling along,
and dogs, dogs, and more dogs!!

We usually arrive back at the hotel between 2 and 4pm then it’s time
to set up for the evening cook-out and cook the lobsters the guys have brought
back. (a woman’s work is never done. LOL) This trip was no different, and the eve-
ning was full of good food, Kahlua sombreros, and fabulous desserts. But the most
important part of P-Town weekend is the community of people who share a passion
for diving and the desire to share that passion with others. A good time was had
by all!
