Cheung Kong Group Supports Community Chest’s Rainbow Fund for the Fourth Time
(5 June, 2009 – Hong Kong) – The Cheung Kong Group (Cheung Kong (Holdings) Limited,
Hutchison Whampoa Limited, Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings Limited and Hongkong
Electric Holdings Limited) announced today that it will continue to support the Community
Chest’s Rainbow Fund programme and will launch The Community Chest “Cheung Kong”
Rainbow Fund Donation Hotline again this Saturday.
This is the fourth year that the Group has supported The Community Chest’s Rainbow Fund.
All contributions from the public made through The Community Chest “Cheung Kong”
Rainbow Fund Donation Hotline “18282” during the “Community for the Chest” programme
broadcasted on TVB Jade from 8:30pm to 11:30pm on June 6 (this Saturday) will be matched
dollar-for-dollar by the Cheung Kong Group, doubling total donations to The Community
Chest.
Mr Victor Li, Managing Director and Deputy Chairman of Cheung Kong (Holdings) Limited,
met representatives from The Community Chest and its partner member social welfare
agencies to understand more about the operations of The Community Chest’s Rainbow Fund.
The delegation included The Hon Charles Lee, GBM, JP, Co-chairman of the Campaign
Committee of the Community Chest; Ms Cecilia Li, Chief Executive of the Community Chest;
Mrs Cecilia Kwan, Executive Director of Hong Kong Family Welfare Society; Ms Cindy
Leung, Head of Service (Subsidiary Service) of Hong Kong Family Welfare Society; and Ms
Angie Lai, Head of Family Service of Caritas – Hong Kong. During the meeting, Mr Victor Li
presented a cheque of HK$1 million to the Community Chest, as an initial donation to
encourage more people to offer their support.
The Community Chest’s Rainbow Fund was launched in 2004 to provide rapid responses to
people who find themselves in an emergency financial crisis for which other sources of help
may not be available. Over the years, a total of more than HK$31 million has been allocated
to about 20,000 people to help solve their pressing needs. With the generous support from the
Cheung Kong Group, the fund will continue to be named The Community Chest “Cheung
Kong” Rainbow Fund.

The Cheung Kong Group has been named one of the top 3 donors of The Community Chest
for the past nine consecutive years.
The Community Chest “Cheung Kong” Rainbow Fund seeks to help:
- Individuals and families with imminent needs - threat to survival;
- Individuals and families with imminent needs - otherwise causing irreversible damage and
social consequences;
- Those marginalised in society, and those who may be caught between gaps.
