Milan Mrksich, Phd

Milan Mrksich, PhD
Professor of Chemistry
The University of Chicago

Milan Mrksich is a founding member of the Institute for Biophysical Dynamics at the
University of Chicago. His research focuses on the interface of materials and biological
environments. His group has developed routes to materials that address many current
problems in basic and applied biology, including a class of substrates that mimic the
extracellular matrix, a route to biochip microarrays that permit quantitative and label-free
assays, and strategies to functionally integrate mammalian cells with microelectronics
components to create hybrid microsystems. Dr. Mrksich has received many awards for
his work including the TR100 Young Innovator and American Chemical Society Cope
Scholar and serves on the advisory boards of several biotechnology companies and
government organizations.
