IGFR – Pre-Tour in Saint-Malo
SAINT-MALO GOLF & COUNTRY GLUB: Par 72
http://www.saintmalogolf.com
Designed in 1986 by Hubert Chesneau, also the architect of
the «Golf National», host to the French Open. Set in the
Mesnil forest ,ancient hunting grounds of Robert Surcouf &
surrounded by the vast Mirloup lake, the course boasts
spectacular views and plenty of water hazards (13). The
course is maintained to Championship level by Paul
Bontemps (7 years Director of Greenkeeping Studies -
Neuvic).
DINARD GOLF CLUB: Par 68
http://www.dinardgolf.com
Designed by Tom Dunn in 1887, this course is the second
oldest in France after Pau (1856). Laid out alongside
France’s Emerald Coast, players enjoy sea views from all
18 holes, each of which has its own individual name (the
dog’s paw, the complete disaster, etc.) This course is
neither long nor tiring, so it may deceive the unwary into
thinking that it is easy, but the final score tells the real story.
This course is more tricky than difficult, with its sandy soil,
undulating fairways, small, high, very fast greens and many
bunkers; it also has very few trees, but plenty of broom and
gorse bushes.
THE BAY OF MONT SAINT MICHEL
Situated in the middle of a bay, the Mont Saint-Michel
welcomes nearly three and a half million people every year.
At the entrance of this medieval town is the ancient
Burgher’s Guardroom, now the Tourist Office. After going
through the Boulevard Gate and then the King’s Gate,
fortified with its portcullis, you will find the « Grande Rue »
wih its museums, shops and houses dating from the 15th
and 16th centuries. The parish church consecrated to St.
Pierre, the patron saint of fishermen, is a small edifice from
the 15th and 16th centuries.
LUNCH AT « LA MERE POULARD »
Annette Poulard is famous for founding L'Auberge de la
Mère Poulard in 1888. She discovered the secret of eternal
youth in her love for Mont Saint Michel and her passion for
the culinary arts. Michel Bruneau is the master chef at La
Mère Poulard and founder of La Bourride (Michelin 2 star).
He has dedicated his life to promoting the specialities of the
region and furthering French culinary arts.
