HEIRICH KLÄSER VISIT TO THE IGC
Recently, President General, José-Ramón Díaz-Torremocha, and the President
of the Superior Council of the Society in Germany, Heinrich Kläser, met in Paris,
in presence of one of Mr Kläser’s predecessors, Secretary General Erich
Schmitz. They intensely discussed the situation of Vincentian charity in Germany.
President General was very interested in the development of German
Conferences, as well as in other western Europe countries, where the number of
active Catholics in the parishes, and thus, the number of candidates to SSVP
membership is decreasing.
German Conferences are stabilizing on a reduced membership basis, and
collaborate with other charities in the country, such as SKM, an organization
founded last century by the proper SSVP. Secretary General underlined that for a
continued effective work of the Conferences, it is necessary to find a balanced
climate between volunteers and Caritas professionals. Conferences are present
in half the 27 dioceses of the country.
