This is Mambo. Mambo lives
with his mum, dad and
younger brother Marty.
Mambo and his family are very
close and do lots of things to-
gether. They go on long walks
and trips to the park.
Marty and Mambo’s favourite
game is playing football with
their dad. This is special to
Mambo and Marty because
their dad was really poorly
and got tired really quickly so
couldn’t play with them very
often.
Mambo and Marty’s dad is al-
ways in and out of hospital for
tests so the doctors can try to
make him better, but he always
finds time to play with Mambo
and Marty.
Mambo and Marty noticed
their dad was getting more
tired and started to do less
with them. He spent most
of the time just sitting down
watching the football on tv.
Then one day Mambo and Marty’s
dad had to go to hospital for an
operation which could help make
him better. They kissed him good
bye and went to stay with their
grandma and granddad while mum
took their dad to the hospital.
Mambo and Marty thought their dad was
going to get better, but the next day they
were playing when mum came in.
“Boys, I need to talk to you,” she said. Sit-
ting them down, she explained, “Your daddy
was very poorly, the doctors couldn’t make
him better and he’s gone to a place called
heaven”
“Heaven, what’s heaven?” asked
Mambo
“Heaven is a special place in the
sky above the clouds where
people go to be stars and live
with the Angels” mum replied
“Can we go there and see daddy?”
asked Marty.
“No but daddy can watch, love and
care for you” said mum.
“What would happen if we went to
heaven before daddy did, who would
be there for us?” asked Mambo.
“Heaven has lots and lots of angels. Every-
body has a guardian angel.”
“What’s one of them?” asked Mambo.
“A guardian angel is a special angel that
watches over you, and when it’s your time to
go to heaven, your angel will come and guide
you there, but it won’t be until you’re much
older like grandma” said mum.
The next few days were hard
for Mambo and Marty. They
really missed their dad not be-
ing around and felt very upset.
“It’s fine to get upset and cry.
It’s fine to miss your daddy,”
Mum told Mambo and Marty
That night Mambo and Marty sat by the
window with their mum.
“Do you see that bright star in the sky?”
mum asked. “Yes” they replied.
“Well..,” said mum “..that is your daddy’s star
and when you get sad or want to talk to
your daddy just go look out the window and
talk to the star.”
Mambo and Marty found it hard
getting used to their dad not being
there, but they knew their dad was
watching them and when they felt
sad or were missing their dad they
knew they could always look for the
special bright star in the sky.
