Squidoo Traffic Generation Checklist

Squidoo Traffic Generation Checklist

Preliminary

Identify industry.
Identify niche.
Identify keywords.
Identify content that would appeal to users and generate traffic.
Sign up with Squidoo and create your account using your keyword.
For best results, create a separate landing page for each lens based on your
keywords (so you can optimize and track which lens visitors come from).

Create your lens

A lens is simply a user-generated page of interest on the Squidoo website.

Introduction
Write a strong opening paragraph which grabs the attention of the reader and
provides a brief overview of the lens.
Ensure the introduction is concise yet compelling and is only two short
paragraphs at most.

Body
Answer the WWWWWH.
Use quotes and references from other articles to enhance what you are
saying.
Use your keywords in the body whenever possible.
Avoid complex jargon unless necessary.
Whenever explaining the features of a product, service or company, explain
how it will benefit the audience or target market. Always think from your
audience’s perspective, not yours.
Write your article with charisma and humor that endears the readers to you
and creates rapport. They will be more likely to visit your site, given the
nature of Squidoo.

Call to Action
Be specific but don’t be too over the top; otherwise you turn the lens into an
advertisement.
A URL to a landing page with e-mail opt-in is the best way to generate leads
to convert and capture visitor information. This should be a separate page so
you can track conversions.

Ensure this information is in a ‘signature block’ or at least the final paragraph
of the lens.
Ideally the lens will be structured so that it provides some information in the
article but encourages the reader to visit your site to find out more or to get
detail on what you have covered.

Contact Information
Include a short statement about the company/person.
Add a link to a website.
Include your trademark or copyright information.
Do not include an e-mail address (e-mail harvesters will send you spam).

Summary
Summarize the lens in as few words as possible.
Place at the bottom of the lens for those who prefer to scan but above the
signature block with your website link.

Headline
Do not write this until the end.
Write between 30-50 headlines and then narrow it down.
Summarize the core point of the lens yet grab the attention of the reader.
Include your keywords in the headline where possible.
Do not write as an advertisement. Write as a newspaper headline –
summarize and inform.

Submit and promote your lens

Use your catchy headline as the title for your lens.
Include your opt-in list to encourage people to sign up.
Include a comments box so people can stay in contact with each other.
Lay out your prewritten content in the lens in a way that is easy to
understand and follow.
Publish your lens.
Ping your lens using www.pingler.com
Read through your published lens and correct any errors, typos or
inaccuracies.
Ensure your lens is full of the keywords related to your niche so that it can
enjoy a higher search ranking and thus more visitors, who then visit your site.
Consider promoting your lens on your website to cross-reference it and add
authenticity to the fact that you have published it (as opposed to leaving it in
isolation).

Appraisal

If you are satisfied with the level of traffic and leads you are receiving from
your Squidoo lens, congratulations! You have successfully created a traffic-
driving, lead-generating Squidoo lens.
If not, go to the Optimization section.

Optimization

Rank other lenses.
Contact other prominent Squidoo users and encourage them to rank your
lens.
The higher ranked your lens, the more traffic you will receive, and the more
traffic that will visit your lens and ultimately your site.
